About Me

Hello There! My name is Katelyn and I am living in a small village by the name of Kasiisi, just outside Fort Portal in Western Uganda working as a United States Peace Corps Health Volunteer.

I am working with The Kibale Forest Schools Program and The Kasiisi Project in Kasiisi Village. Check them out at TheKasiisiProject.

As a native of Minnesota and Colorado, I graduated from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, in Moorhead, Minnesota in 2012. I received a bachelors degree in Mass Communication: Broadcast Journalism, with a Minor in Coaching: Track and Field, along with Baseball and Softball. After college, I moved to Boston to work in the media field before moving to Los Angeles to dabble in the TV and Music industry. As I waited for my Peace Corps assignment I moved to Buena Vista, Colorado to work at 100 Elk Outdoor Center before packing everything up and moving to East Africa! This adventure is my first time traveling outside of the United States and so far I love it!

In Uganda, during the little free time I have, I love to read, write, work out (run and yoga), watch movies/TV, travel around Uganda or overseas (so far I have been to Rwanda and Italy), dream, meet new people, and plan for the future (still have no idea what I want to do).

My two years with the United States Peace Corps are dedicated to two amazing people who have impacted my life in various ways. The first is my grandmother Ellen Newman, who inspired me to be great, and who also believed in me when no one else did. The second is my dear friend Rhonda, who I miss every day.
